Our Services
Local Moves
Moving can be very stressful, but our years of experience and professional staff will make you feel confident and relaxed. Starting with our free quote we will arrange every detail of the move for you. Your household belongings will be handled with the utmost care and respect.
Francis Rush Moving has handled several commercial moves over the years, and we understand that businesses cannot afford much down time. We are well able to move your equipment and furniture efficiently, resulting in a smooth transition from one location to the other.
Move preparation
Fixed items
Take down any item permanently fixed to the wall or ceiling, such as chandeliers, cabinets, light fixtures, etc. (Note: We can arrange for this as extra cost prior to your move date)
Appliances
All appliances must be in move-ready condition when the crew arrives at your home:
- Freezers, refrigerators, washers, dishwashers etc. must be defrosted and dried, and ready to move at least 24 hours prior to the crews’ arrival.
- Stoves/cookers, washers etc. must be disconnected prior to our arrival (unless speciically arranged).
- Blocking and unblocking a front-loading washing machine: It is your responsibility to provide our crew with the custom blocking device supplied by the manufacturer. This device is required to protect against damage during movement as noted in the manufacturer’s instruction manual. If the blocking kit is not provided to our crew, we cannot be held responsible if damage occurs.
Electronics
- Read manuals for stereos, electrical items, etc., so that you can prepare them for transportation, i.e. all electrical items must be ready to move before we arrive.
- All CDs/tapes and videos should be taken out of the machine (to avoid them being damaged in transit).
- Computers must be ready for transport. Ink-jet printers must have the ink cartridges removed. Pack new cartridges only as old ones may leak. We also recommend that you back-up your computer, preferably on media you can carry separately.
Outdoor items
- It is your responsibility to offer all goods especially garden furniture, pots, ceramics and similar free from dirt, cobwebs and evidence of infestation.
- Mowers and garden equipment/furniture must be clean and ready to move. Mowers and other machinery must be emptied of oil, gas and petrol.
- Gas tanks for barbecues cannot be moved even if they are totally empty.
Attics/Lofts
Any attic/loft without a fully boarded floor must have all items removed from it prior to our arrival (this is to save you from any legal liability). Lofts should also be lit and have a secure, stable ladder.
Non-moveable Items
Any bleach, paints, thinners or other lammable or hazardous items cannot be shipped. These must be disposed of prior to our arrival.
Personal Items and Valuables
All valuables must be transported personally with you. These include jewelry (except costume jewelry), cash, stocks and bonds, important documents plus valuable stamp and coin collections.
Final check
On completion of packing you are responsible for checking that everything that should have been moved out has been. Please do this before our team departs your home. Any items found afterwards may well involve additional costs for shipping separately.

Our qualified personnel will assist with every aspect of your move including planning, destination information, customs clearance and insurance coverage.
As an agent for North American Van Lines we will provide you with an accurate estimate of your shipment weight, and all applicable charges. Insurance for full coverage of your possessions is available through North American Van Lines.
Airfreight
Air freight is the fastest option but also the most expensive way to ship goods overseas. The majority of customers choose to ship the majority of their household goods by sea freight and only use an air shipment when some items will be needed to bridge the gap while the ocean shipment arrives. The best items for air freight are items that are dense and of low cubic volume (no furniture)
Items to consider shipping via Air Freight:
- Clothing
- Necessities for a baby or young children
- Necessities for personal use
- Toiletries
- Computer
Ocean Freight
Ocean freight is the most common and cost-effective option for international moves. Dependent upon the size of your move there are three primary containers used.
Lift Van
The lift-van is the smallest of the options for ocean freight used for a small amount of personal goods and household effects. Lift Vans are consolidated in a shipping container with other Lift Vans going to the same destination. Customers should be aware that the transit time is often extended as a result. Household goods can be shipped in multiple lift vans although a sole use shipping container will be more cost effective for most customers with an average shipment size.
20 Ft. Container
A 20 ft container is the most common shipment method for an international move. The container has the capacity to hold 1100 cu ft internally and is roughly the size of a single car garage. A 20 ft container will accommodate all sizes of furniture and personal effects. If the container is not full, the shipment will be secured with a bulkhead – a plywood wall – which is used to brace the shipment to prevent any shifting of the items while in transit
40 Ft. Container
A 40 ft container is one of the largest capacity containers for ocean freight shipments. With a capacity of roughly 2200 cu ft, this container is roughly the size of a full 2-car garage. This is ideal for larger homes.
Office Relocation
If you’re looking for office relocation on PEI then Francis Rush Moving is your best choice! We know your top priority is a quick transition from one office space to the other, and to do that you need the timely, coordinated and undamaged delivery of your important equipment, furniture, and documents.
Moving your business is our business
We have a long history of successful commercial moves, and experience is key for the organization of an outstanding move. Some of our notable office and commercial moves include:
- PEI Provincial Government
- Dept. National Defence
- Queen Elizabeth Hospital
- Grant Thornton
- PEI Newcomer’s Association
- Study Abroad Diocese of Charlottetown
- Main Street Family Resource Centre
- Red Crow Studios – Electronic Arts
- Ceridian Canada ltd
Not only have we done a lot of moves over the years, but we have done these moves very well! An example that still holds true today is our move of two hospitals to the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It was the largest move carried out on PEI at the time.
The QEH move required not only the movement of sensitive diagnostic quipment, labratory equipment, and furnishings, but it also required the co-ordination of the patient’s move to the move of their beds and other equipment related to their specific care, ensuring that these things arrived seamlessly with the patient. There were a total of 352 beds moved to the QEH.
We can supply a free quote for your move including complete or partial packing of your office!
